UK braces for THUNDER and LIGHTNING as Met Office issues 19-HOUR POWER CUT WARNING

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms with Brits braced for floods and lightning strikes within hours.

The alert, which comes into force at 3am, covers swathes of England and Wales - where residents are warned of disruption and possible power cuts.

The warning runs until 10pm and covers 59 local authorities across the East Midlands, East of England, London & South East England, North West England, South West England, Wales, the West Midlands and Yorkshire.

The forecaster said there was “a small risk of flooding and disruption from thunderstorms on Wednesday,” with residents urged to be prepared for possible flooding and disruption from lightning strikes.

BBC Weather forecasters have also said “thundery” showers are on the cards from the middle of this week onwards, with eastern areas expected to see the most rain on Thursday.

Maps using UKMO model data now show the total expected rainfall across the UK for Thursday, revealing exactly what parts of the country will see the most. Eastern England, central areas and the north-west look set to be wettest.

Iran fires missiles at UK-US Diego Garcia base, it is understood | BBC News

Two ballistic missiles were fired at the island of Diego Garcia, the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported overnight, citing unnamed US officials, but neither weapon reached its target.

One missile reportedly failed in flight, while the other was intercepted by a US warship. It is unclear when the missiles were supposedly fired.

The BBC understands the reports are accurate

The attack happened before the UK announced American forces could use British bases to launch strikes on Iranian sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Iran has said that its Natanz nuclear facility was targeted again.

It is easy to forget that not all that long ago, Britain was one of the world’s biggest oil producers.

Back in 1986, this country was the fifth biggest crude producer in the world, just behind Mexico and above Iran and Iraq. Even as recently as the turn of the millennium, the UK was still in the top ten.

But many assume that the North Sea is essentially finished.
