One woman in her eighties and suffering from a serious illness - has found herself stranded after taking a trip to see family in Ghana because of what's being described as an 'irregularity' over her date of birth.
This is Hannah Dankwa's story.
The Home Office sent us a statement saying while they “do not comment on individual passport applications, a passport is only issued once all checks are satisfactorily completed”.
The Windrush Commissioner said: "This case highlights a broader and troubling issue: people from Commonwealth countries may find themselves stranded abroad, unable to prove their lawful right to live in the UK. In line with the recommendations of the Wendy Williams Review, I urge the Home Office to respond to such cases, particularly those involving older people and individuals with serious medical conditions, with urgency, compassion and humanity."
