Instead of doing the cool guy thing and reviewing a hip, trendy noise-rock record like we normally would, we decided to review something we are completley unfamiliar with.

Well, not totally unfamiliar. The Lumineers debuted in the throwback era of indie rock, where every band were dressing like quakers, playing banjos and pretending like they don't engage with technology. It might be a misconception that The Lumineers disappeared after "Hey Ho," but they've been on a winning streak ever since.

"Automatic" is only their 5th album to date, and it doesn't seem like they're really doing anything different, aside from trying to comment on the new era of social media and technology, albeit in a very half-assed way. The instrumentation is pretty but skeletal, and the same applies with the vocals and lyrics. They're trying to send a message, but it really never connects.

It's OK, though. There is a hipster girl with a dreamcatcher tattoo and giant sombrero loving this thing, and that's all that really matters.
