I’ve landed back in Italy a decade after a political earthquake that shook Europe. When the Italian people rejected decades of left-wing rule and figures like Matteo Salvini rose under relentless legal and political attack, I came to Rome to see what had really changed. What I found then was shocking, crime, fear, and stories the media ignored. Now I’m back, meeting Eva Vlaardingerbroek, walking the streets again, and returning to the places they warned me never to go, to see first hand what Italy has become and why this shift didn’t happen by accident.
