A rubber mold for concrete statues will fail without an outside support, which is where a fiberglass mother mold (shell) is essential. The fiberglass can hold the massive weight of concrete, and it will hold the form until it hardens for demolding. It also is light and easy to use, allowing for quicker statue production.
