Scientists from the University of South Australia have identified an enzyme called NEDD4-2 which is critical to kidney health https://www.unisa.edu.au/Media....-Centre/Releases/202

Approximately 700 million people worldwide now live with chronic kidney disease (CKD), largely due to a huge spike in obesity and type 2 diabetes in recent decades. Low levels of NEDD4-2 exacerbate kidney damage, even in the absence of a high-salt diet and in people with low blood pressure. This critical finding could change the way that kidney disease is treated, explains UniSA researcher Dr Jantina Manning in this video. The long term goal is to develop a drug that can increase NEDD4-2 levels in people with CKD, helping to stem the 29 per cent increase in chronic kidney disease in the past 30 years.
