Ahead of Donald Trump's summit with Vladimir Putin, Ukraine's European allies needed to present a united front.

The German chancellor and the EU commission chief were among the leaders to hold a phone call with Trump.

Germany's Friedrich Merz said the positions of Ukraine, its European allies and the US were "very much in agreement".
