What is an adulterous marriage? Herodias divorced her husband Philip, and married his brother, King Herod. Though Herod and Herodias had a wedding and created a life together, Herodias was one flesh with Philip. When John the Baptist saw Herod, he proclaimed “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife” (Mark 6:18). “So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him” (Mark 6:19) is sadly the common response people have when informed they’re in an adulterous marriage. Jesus said “anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery” (Matt 5:32). Moreover, the Scriptures teach “one-flesh” aka Sex is Marriage (Gen 2:24, Matt 19:4-6), and Moses said “If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride- price, and she shall be his wife.” Even today, when a man sleeps with a virgin, they are married in the eyes of God, no wedding necessary (1 Cor 7:36). Divorce is only permitted if the wife cheats (Matt 19:9), or if the unbeliever divorces the Believer (1 Cor 7:15). #Bible #BibleStudy #BibleVerse #BibleBuild #Christian #ChristianTikTok #Jesus #Adultery #Cheating #Marriage #Married
