What does General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) look like through the eyes of a lifetime Protestant? This video will shed some light.
As 52 Churches in 52 Weeks winds down, it's been humbling to explore and learn about different churches and faiths. One of the biggest surprises has been the warm reception amongst Latter-day Saints - and it's not just the Utah-based LDS Church, that includes various Book of Mormon-believing restoration branches. Christ-centered, family-focused, and the faith-forward examples have shifted my understanding from what is typically projected.
That came to a head this past weekend, witnessing what was happening outside, and what was taught inside.
Special thanks to those who suggested and assisted to attend LDS General Conference. You know who you are :)

We asked kids to us tell the story of the good Samaritan in their own words. In this story, a Jewish man was traveling on a dangerous road through the hills when thieves attacked him. They hurt him, took his clothes, and left him by the side of the road to die. Two men passed by him on the road, but they didn’t do anything to help. Then a Samaritan man came by. The Samaritans and the Jews didn’t get along, but that didn’t stop the good Samaritan from helping the man. The Samaritan washed the man’s wounds, put him on his mule, and took him to an inn. He paid the innkeeper money to care for the wounded man. How can you be like the good Samaritan and help someone today?

A man struggled with a difficult weakness for 30 years.
Based on his own compelling true story, this person had a profound, spiritual realization and a breakthrough of understanding—that God always loves and values him and remains by his side, ready to help, even during repeated struggles.
Like this man, many of us surround ourselves with shame because we don’t believe we are good enough for God to help us. We might think we must somehow arrive to a certain level of “goodness” on own and stay there before God can step in and take us to higher ground. What’s more, if we continue to fall short, we believe we are hopelessly broken, condemned, and spiritually left behind.
But in truth, as we seek and surrender ourselves to God, whatever our starting point happens to be, God will always be ready to direct us toward the very best version of ourselves. And God will do it with patience and from our own personal place of need. God’s grace and blessings do not depend on flawlessness.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The antidote for the poison of self-criticism is self-compassion, and self-kindness is the key. Become your own best friend by changing how you talk to yourself and learning to embrace your flaws.
We are taught to be compassionate and caring to others just as Jesus Christ was. We take care of friends and family without a second thought. So why do we sometimes exclude ourselves from the same compassion?
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught that "as children of God, we should not demean or vilify ourselves, as if beating up on ourselves is somehow going to make us the person God wants us to become.” Remember, everyone is a child of God who is deserving of love, forgiveness, and patience—and that includes you.

Ray Comfort interviews a man who was born and raised in a Mormon home and in the Mormon church, but left and became a born-again Christian. He exposes many aspects of the Mormon faith that Mormons don't like telling people about, explains why he left Mormonism, and then explains how Mormonism is different from biblical Christianity.
