Lonely Winds was written by the famous songwriting team, Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, based in the Brill Building on Broadway in NYC. The song was recorded on December 23, 1959 by the Drifters and released on the Atlantic label. The lead vocal was performed by Benjamin Nelson, who was to be later known as Ben E. King after he left the group to pursue a solo career. "Lonely Winds" reached #54 on the charts.
