This video explains all the essential steps to prepare Chinese-style chicken herbal soup. You will master the skills to prepare any Chinese herbal soup if you follow the tips listed in this article.
The soup I prepare is what we enjoy in my family for decades. It involves the most commonly used Chinese herbs for making soups, and most of these herbs are readily available in most Chinese herbal shops. Thus, it is suitable for maintaining general health, albeit not explicitly for any specific health issues.
I hope this video will be helpful to anyone who wants to prepare any type of Chinese herbal soup.

=======================================
Recipe:
(Please download the recipe and read the full details at https://tasteasianfood.com/chicken-herbal-soup/ )
Ingredients
1 organic chicken, either plain chicken or black bone chicken, about 1kg
15g red dates/红枣
5g Dāng Guī/当归
5g Huáng Qí|黄芪
15g Dǎng Shēn|党参
15g Huái Shān|淮山
15g Yù Zhú|玉竹
1 tbsp goji berries/枸子
1 tsp salt
Water sufficient to submerge the chicken
Method
- Clean the chicken thoroughly under running water. Remove the giblets and change the water several times until the water runs clear.
- Cut off the chicken feet nail and the extra fats of the chicken.
- Place the chicken in a pot of boiling water for three minutes. Remove and clear once more under running water. Drain.
- Soak the dried herbs in water for three minutes to remove any dirt and sand. Then pick up the herbs and set them aside.
- Place the chicken and all the herbs (except goji berries) in a pot. Add boiling water just enough to submerge all the ingredients.
- Simmer over low heat to simmer for 2.5 hours or until the chicken meat becomes very soft.
- Add the goji berries and salt.
- Simmer over very low heat for another 20 minutes. Serve.

Rosemary and clove have been found in scientific research to have synergistic anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects. This means that they actually help each other work better in these ways. In this video, Erin will show you how you can work with these herbs in either their tincture or essential oil forms to help relieve inflammatory pain.
Erin is a clinical herbalist and aromatherapist and teaches Herbal Aromatherapy™ at Floranella.com.
Want to take your studies about herbs and aromatherapy to the next level? We cover rosemary and about 100 other aromatic herbs in depth in our science-backed Herbal Aromatherapy Certification Program™. Find out more at: https://www.floranella.com/herbal-aromatherapy
Please check with your own medical team prior to introducing any new herbs or essential oils into your routine. They are not entirely benign and do come with some contraindications and possible drug interactions.

Making herbal tinctures is exceptionally simple and takes only a few ingredients: 80 proof alcohol, water, and the herbs you wish to use. Peppermint leaf is used in this video and is great for treating stomach aches, motion sickness and morning sickness. As with making all plant medicine, the symptoms treated will depend on the herb used. Learn how to make an herbal tincture from this video, then experiment with your own herbs.
Tinctures are concentrated liquid extracts of herbs. They are very potent and are taken by the dropperful, most often diluted in warm water or juice. Because they are so concentrated, they should be administered carefully and sparingly. (For chronic problems, use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of a tincture three times daily. For acute problems, use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon every 30 to 60 minutes until symptoms subside.) Most tinctures are made with alcohol as the primary solvent or extractant. Though the amount of alcohol is very small, many people choose not to use alcohol-based tinctures for a variety of sound reasons. Effective tinctures can be made with vegetable glycerin or apple cider vinegar as the solvent. Though they may not be as strong as alcohol-based preparations, they do work and are preferred for children and people who are sensitive to alcohol. Visit the link above for more information.

http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/ John shows you how to make herbal liniment using dried comfrey root, valerian root, calendula flowers, cinnamon and cayenne. An adaptation of the classic Jethro Kloss herbal remedy for occasional minor aches and pains. The liniment will be applied to the skin and the alcohol will evaporate rapidly allowing the herbs to penetrate quickly to accomplish such actions as relieving sore muscles and increasing circulation.
While kombucha is usually made from black tea, April has a fantastic method for making herbal kombucha from herbal teas, spices and fruits. She calls it "herbucha" and it's naturally caffeine free. You can experiment with different ingredients and flavours and can use foraged or bought dried herbs, or even shop-bought herbal teas.
Apart from the main benefit of being great for your gut health, herbucha also goes rather nicely with a bit of gin or your favourite tipple ;)

Harmonic Arts Botanical Dispensary Co-Founder and Master Herbalist Yarrow Willard describes the difference between tea infusions and decoctions, and shows you the best way to make both.
Learn More at www.harmonicarts.ca
What is an Herbal Decoction?
A Decoction is a herbal tea that is lightly simmered for 30 minutes-5 hours. It is different from an Infusion, which is a tea that is steeped in hot water, but not simmered. Typically decoctions are done with woody plant parts like roots, barks, seeds and berries as well as mushrooms, where the medicinal compounds require longer extraction as they are contained by tough fibrous cell walls. They are not ideal for leafy green herbs or those containing highly volatile oils. These types of herbs are better made into Infusions. The strength of a decoction is based on how long they are brewed for and how much herb material is added. Most are typically done with 20 parts water (ml) to 1 part herb (grams), 20:1 . To make stronger this can be reduced as low as 5:1 before you start having more herb than liquid. When making a decoction, it is also important to use the best water you can get (spring water is ideal).
As it can take up to a few hours to make a strong decoction, sometimes it is ideal to make more then you are able to use right away. After straining, they can be stored in mason jars or other glass container in the fridge and reheated or used cold when desired. Most will last for up to a week, so keep this in mind, so as not to make more then you can use, unless you plan to freeze or can some of it.
How do we use decoctions?
Once created, a decoction can be used in many ways other than drinking as a tea, they also make a great base for other projects. One of my favourite options is to make a hot tonic drink. This can be done by adding super food powders like Raw Cacao or our Super Power Blend, a nut mylk, coconut oil or cacao butter and sweetener to the base and blending while still hot, like an amped up hot chocolate. Another option is to use it cold, as a smoothie base or a base for making your own nut mylks.
Decoctions also make a great base for a tonic Immunity soups, becoming the broth. Some are used externally for skin conditions by applying with a dampened cloth or sponge. They can be added to a bath or used as a traditional steam bath, surrounding the area with a towel to keep the steam in. To preserve a decoction, sweetener and alcohol can be added making a syrup or just alcohol making a tincture.

If you are using a small cut of herb they are ideally brewed loose and strained out, but can also be put in a re-usable muslin tea bag*, cheese cloth pouch or should be strained out before adding other vegetables. Another option is to add herbal powders and not filter them, although this will leave some sediment in the soup.
