With more than half of marriages ending in divorce, to say that a study of the subject is needed is an understatement. Most people don't know what God has to say about divorce, and many don't care.
In this study, Don Blackwell delves into a crucial topic that is affecting the very fabric of our society. If you are considering divorce or you know someone who is, please don't go any further until you watch this video. Be sure that you understand what God has to say on this subject of eternal consequence.

Hey, sis! We're doing something a little different today - a good old story time but with a twist. This is a Bible storytime and we're starting with the story of the women at the well (John 4:4-26). I hope this brings this Bible story to life in a new way for you (as it has for me) and as we bring this story to life, we're able to see how we can insert ourselves into them and what truths about this encounter, Jesus, and our faith we can hold onto today and beyond. ENJOY!

Hi! My name is Melody Alisa - welcome to my channel. I lived in South Korea for two years where I met God and I documented my life as an English teacher (check out my Life in Korea playlist for more on this!) Now, I call Atlanta home. On my YouTube channel, I share my Christian faith and life as a creative, a newlywed, and a new mom through weekly new videos!

In this storytime, Melody Alisa shares the biblical story of the woman at the wel, an unmarried woman who was full of shame who met Jesus and was never the same. Melody Alisa tells the story of this Samaritan woman, a woman who was married 5 times before and was full of shame to be currently living with someone who wasn't her husband. Jesus was afraid of this woman's mistakes or sin and instead, in true Jesus-fashion, sought her out and used her to share that He is the Messiah.

TERMINOLOGY
Did you know that there is no single biblical view of marriage and in fact, there’s not a single word in the Bible that corresponds to the English word “marriage” as we know it? How do we know then something like a “marriage” took place? In most cases, men are the subjects and women are the objects of transactions that constitute marriage. When the Holy Bible describes men “taking”, “giving,” and “bringing” women and other goods to create, mediate, and strengthen alliances among men, that’s when we know! For instance, Genesis 4:19 says “Lamech took for himself two women.” Translators like the New Revised Standard Version add the phrase “in marriage” without explicit linguistic justification as a way to relate to contemporary audiences. The words typically translated as “husband” and “wife” are generally used elsewhere in the Bible to refer to a “man” and “woman”: ish and ishshah. Adam and Eve, who are usually understood to be the first example of a marriage never actually got married in the Bible and the word “Wife” here is actually just “woman.” Gen 3:16 God explicitly says to the woman that her man “will rule over her.” At that moment, man then names the woman, reducing her to the status of cattle which serve as a functional utility in relation to man. The most common Hebrew term for a family or household literally translates to “the house of the father.” Two additional words that are sometimes translated into English as “husband”: ba’al (master) and adon (lord). So when translators use words like “marriage” and “husband”, they are doing so to suppress the language of male rule, since these are the same words used to describe relations between master and slave, and the relations between deities and their worshippers.

Here are some examples:
o Gen 18: “my husband is old” = “my master/lord is old.” (adon)
o Deut 24:4 NRSV refers to a woman’s “first husband” = “her first master” (baal)
o Deut 24:1 “Suppose a man enters into marriage with a woman” = “If a man takes a woman and he becomes her lord.”
o Isaiah 62:5 says a man “marries” a young woman, the Hebrew uses the verbal form of baal to indicate that he has become lord or master over her.

Did you ever wonder why in a traditional wedding ceremony the bride’s father walks his daughter down the aisle towards the groom to be met with the question, “ “Who gives this woman to be married to this man?” Or even before that day, why a man traditionally asks permission to marry a father’s daughter? Because women were considered the property of men. The exchange of daughters alongside animals and other property served to establish alliances and obligations between kinship groups. This is quite apparent when you examine the 9th and 10th commandments, when you see a “wife” grouped alongside an ox and a slave.

In short, biblical marriage meant male ownership of women who existed solely for sexual pleasure and productivity. Upon marriage, a woman’s property and her body became the possession of her new husband. As the head of the household, men usually between the ages of 18-24 years old had nearly unlimited rights over wives and children. A woman became available for men’s possession soon after she reached puberty (usually 11-13 years old), that is when she became physically able to produce children.

What does the Bible teach about divorce and remarriage? That’s our topic today on the BEAT.

Hey what’s up everyone my name is Allen Parr and so today we are dealing with a very sensitive subject. Statistics show that over 50% of all couples experience divorce, which means not only are they affected by it but their children are as well. I recognize there are a variety of views on it so my goal is to provide a balanced yet biblical view on the subject.

With that being said, the first thing I want to say is that…

1. Divorce is not the unforgivable sin
a. I would argue that it’s not a sin at all in some situations. We’ve taken this one sin and have shunned and shamed people and caused them to feel worse than they already do about the deep pain associated with a divorce.
b. We need to be about the business of restoring people who are broken and reminding them that if God is big enough to forgive other sins then He is big enough to forgive the sin of divorce.
2. Grounds for Divorce
a. With that being said I would argue that the Bible provides four grounds for divorce and remarriage.
b. Adultery – Mt. 19:9 – Jesus says that if a spouse commits adultery then the other spouse has the option to divorce and remarry although reconciliation is always preferred if the offending spouse is truly repentant.
c. Abandonment – 1 Cor. 7:12-15
d. Death – 1 Cor. 7:39 – Paul says that if a spouse dies then the living spouse is obviously no longer bound and is free to remarry.
e. Divorce as an Unbeliever – 2 Cor. 5:17 – When we become Christians God does not hold us accountable for anything we did before we were saved.
3. The X-Factor
a. With all of that being said I believe there is one x-factor here and that is the heart of God. I am convinced that, although there are consequences to our decisions, GOD ALWAYS RESPONDS TO A HEART OF REPENTANCE WITH GRACE.
b. We see this in the life of David. We see this with how God dealt with Israel who sinned against God repeatedly and yet God called them back to repentance.
4. Finally my advice to someone who has experienced the devastating pain of divorce is
a. Go out of your way to shield your children from the pain of the divorce as much as you can.
b. But more importantly, NEVER WASTE A FAILURE! Take the lessons that you’ve learned [see what part you played, if any, in the breakdown of the marriage] and turn around and help someone else because if you don’t you are allowing the enemy to get the victory on the front end and on the back end by causing you to hide behind your failures and being too ashamed to share your wisdom with someone else.

Question: "What does the Bible say about interracial marriage?" Believe it or not, this is one of the most requested questions, at GotQuestions.org In this video, we’ll see how the Bible answers, and at the end I’ll point you to some helpful resources, so stick around.

The Old Testament Law commanded the Israelites not to engage in interracial marriage (Deuteronomy 7:3–4). However, the reason for this command was not skin color or ethnicity. Rather, it was religious. The reason God commanded against interracial marriage for the Jews was that people of other races were worshippers of false gods. The Israelites would be led astray from God if they intermarried with idol worshippers, pagans, or heathens. This is exactly what happened in Israel, according to Malachi 2:11.

A similar principle of spiritual purity is laid out in the New Testament, but it has nothing to do with race: “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). Just as the Israelites (believers in the one true God) were commanded not to marry idolaters, so Christians (believers in the one true God) are commanded not to marry unbelievers. The Bible never says that interracial marriage is wrong. Anyone who forbids interracial marriage is doing so without biblical authority.

As Martin Luther King, Jr., noted, a person should be judged by his or her character, not by skin color. There is no place in the life of the Christian for favoritism based on race (James 2:1–10). In fact, the biblical perspective is that there is only one “race”—the human race, with everyone having descended from Adam and Eve. When selecting a mate, a Christian should first find out if the potential spouse is born again by faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:3–5). Faith in Christ, not skin color, is the biblical standard for choosing a spouse. Interracial marriage is not a matter of right or wrong but of wisdom, discernment, and prayer.

A couple considering marriage needs to weigh many factors. While a difference in skin color should not be ignored, it absolutely should not be the determining factor in whether a couple should marry. An interracial couple may face discrimination and ridicule, and they should be prepared to respond to such prejudice in a biblical manner. “There is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him” (Romans 10:12). A colorblind church and/or a Christian interracial marriage can be a powerful illustration of our equality in Christ.
