Make Your Own Potting Compost 121gamers 2 بازدیدها • پیش 2 سال ها

Either buy compost for propagation, or you can make it. With homemade you know what's in there. See possibilities here: having good materials to make your own needs forethought and that you made suitable compost.

Why compost not soil?
Compost has a fine crumb structure, good aeration, decent drainage. Although the soil at Homeacres is great soil, it is dense and wet in cells and pots.

What makes a good mix?! In order of importance:
1 Nutrient density, 2 Good drainage, 3 Holds moisture, 4 Weed free.

I show three possible main ingredients sieved to 4mm,
1 Own compost
2 Worm compost
3 Woodchip compost - must be dry enough to sieve, makes manure difficult
PLUS in small amounts (and why) are soil, perlite/vermiculite, sand, minerals like seaweed powder, wood ash, basalt dust.

DIRECTIONS For A Brand New Batch of Probiotic Water:
Pour room temperature pure water into the sterile quart or liter size glass jar
Add about (5ml) 1 teaspoon of honey
Add about 1/2 capsule of probiotics
Put lid on jar an allow to sit in warm place for 3-5 days. The countertop is just fine.

DIRECTIONS For a Renewed Batch of Probiotic Water:
Save the last 1/4 to 1/3 portion of the probiotic water (this is your starter)
Pour room temperature pure water into the glass jar
Add about 1 teaspoon (5ml) of honey
Put lid on jar an allow to sit in warm place for 3-5 days. The countertop is just fine.

Tip: Keep multiple jars of probiotic water in rotation so you never run out!

COMMON QUESTIONS:

1. HOW TO STORE:
Keep on the counter or in a cupboard with a somewhat loose lid. No refrigeration needed. Lasts for months. To keep feeding the probiotics, add a little honey every 2-3 weeks.

If it seems to die off over a month or so, just start a fresh batch. You'll know it's no longer active when it smells like plain water with honey instead of a slight sweet/sour smell that is common with fermentation.

2. HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Lasts for months.

3. HOW MUCH TO DRINK? I cannot recommend what is best for you, but here is what I do... I consume a few tablespoons a day by adding it over my salad, to a smoothie or to my water bottle. I personally do not measure out how much I take, I just splash it in here and there throughout the day. I do not consume more than 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) each day.

4. WHAT BRAND OF PROBIOTICS? I use Garden Of Life, but any brand will work. If your probiotic contains pre-biotics, that is just fine. https://amzn.to/39Y6n4B

5. WATER: Avoid water with chlorine like city tap. City tap water has a lot of other toxic residues in it such as pharmaceuticals + other chemicals that could interfere with a healthy fermentation. In my opinion, it's best to avoid using it for fermenting. You can use filtered water, distilled, bottled, non-chlorinated well water, etc.

6. You can use any type of honey. Alternatives that also work are maple syrup, molasses, agave, and unbleached cane sugar.

Homemade Beef Jerky is much easier than you thought and all you need is some beef and a smidgen of patience to pull off the process.

Beef Jerky Recipe:
2 lbs of top round or flank steak sliced between 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch thickness

Rosemary salt recipe full batch:
1 cup kosher salt
14 sprigs of rosemary stripped
8 sprigs sage stripped
3-5 cloves of garlic (3 if they are big and 5 if small)
1 lemon zested

Rosemary salt weighted recipe:
250 grams kosher salt
8 grams fresh sage leaves
16 grams fresh rosemary leaves
20 grams fresh garlic
3 grams fresh lemon zest

Chipotle BBQ sauce recipe:
1 large onion medium dice
1/3 cup malt vinegar
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2/3 cup water
2 cup ketchup
2 1/2 tbsp molasses
6 oz chipotle
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
2 tbsp honey
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
1. sweat down the onion over low heat with 1 tbsp of cooking oil for 10 minutes or until the onion has turned translucent.
2. add all the other ingredients on the list and let it simmer away (just barely bubbling) for 25 minutes.
3. strain out the onions and let the sauce cool down to room temp before putting in a container to store in the fridge.
