What does the Bible teach about divorce and remarriage? That’s our topic today on the BEAT.

Hey what’s up everyone my name is Allen Parr and so today we are dealing with a very sensitive subject. Statistics show that over 50% of all couples experience divorce, which means not only are they affected by it but their children are as well. I recognize there are a variety of views on it so my goal is to provide a balanced yet biblical view on the subject.

With that being said, the first thing I want to say is that…

1. Divorce is not the unforgivable sin
a. I would argue that it’s not a sin at all in some situations. We’ve taken this one sin and have shunned and shamed people and caused them to feel worse than they already do about the deep pain associated with a divorce.
b. We need to be about the business of restoring people who are broken and reminding them that if God is big enough to forgive other sins then He is big enough to forgive the sin of divorce.
2. Grounds for Divorce
a. With that being said I would argue that the Bible provides four grounds for divorce and remarriage.
b. Adultery – Mt. 19:9 – Jesus says that if a spouse commits adultery then the other spouse has the option to divorce and remarry although reconciliation is always preferred if the offending spouse is truly repentant.
c. Abandonment – 1 Cor. 7:12-15
d. Death – 1 Cor. 7:39 – Paul says that if a spouse dies then the living spouse is obviously no longer bound and is free to remarry.
e. Divorce as an Unbeliever – 2 Cor. 5:17 – When we become Christians God does not hold us accountable for anything we did before we were saved.
3. The X-Factor
a. With all of that being said I believe there is one x-factor here and that is the heart of God. I am convinced that, although there are consequences to our decisions, GOD ALWAYS RESPONDS TO A HEART OF REPENTANCE WITH GRACE.
b. We see this in the life of David. We see this with how God dealt with Israel who sinned against God repeatedly and yet God called them back to repentance.
4. Finally my advice to someone who has experienced the devastating pain of divorce is
a. Go out of your way to shield your children from the pain of the divorce as much as you can.
b. But more importantly, NEVER WASTE A FAILURE! Take the lessons that you’ve learned [see what part you played, if any, in the breakdown of the marriage] and turn around and help someone else because if you don’t you are allowing the enemy to get the victory on the front end and on the back end by causing you to hide behind your failures and being too ashamed to share your wisdom with someone else.

Question: "What does the Bible say about interracial marriage?" Believe it or not, this is one of the most requested questions, at GotQuestions.org In this video, we’ll see how the Bible answers, and at the end I’ll point you to some helpful resources, so stick around.

The Old Testament Law commanded the Israelites not to engage in interracial marriage (Deuteronomy 7:3–4). However, the reason for this command was not skin color or ethnicity. Rather, it was religious. The reason God commanded against interracial marriage for the Jews was that people of other races were worshippers of false gods. The Israelites would be led astray from God if they intermarried with idol worshippers, pagans, or heathens. This is exactly what happened in Israel, according to Malachi 2:11.

A similar principle of spiritual purity is laid out in the New Testament, but it has nothing to do with race: “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). Just as the Israelites (believers in the one true God) were commanded not to marry idolaters, so Christians (believers in the one true God) are commanded not to marry unbelievers. The Bible never says that interracial marriage is wrong. Anyone who forbids interracial marriage is doing so without biblical authority.

As Martin Luther King, Jr., noted, a person should be judged by his or her character, not by skin color. There is no place in the life of the Christian for favoritism based on race (James 2:1–10). In fact, the biblical perspective is that there is only one “race”—the human race, with everyone having descended from Adam and Eve. When selecting a mate, a Christian should first find out if the potential spouse is born again by faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:3–5). Faith in Christ, not skin color, is the biblical standard for choosing a spouse. Interracial marriage is not a matter of right or wrong but of wisdom, discernment, and prayer.

A couple considering marriage needs to weigh many factors. While a difference in skin color should not be ignored, it absolutely should not be the determining factor in whether a couple should marry. An interracial couple may face discrimination and ridicule, and they should be prepared to respond to such prejudice in a biblical manner. “There is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him” (Romans 10:12). A colorblind church and/or a Christian interracial marriage can be a powerful illustration of our equality in Christ.

God Is Preparing You for Marriage If . . .
God Is Preparing You for Marriage If . . . 2 Views • 2 years ago

Here are 3 signs that God might be preparing you for marriage.

1. If God Is Developing a Biblical Desire for Marriage in You

God won’t force you to get married. If he actually does want you to get married one day, the first thing he will do is soften your heart towards marriage and develop a biblical longing for marriage in your heart.

2. If God Is Giving You the Needed Relationship Experience to Meet, Date, and Marry the One He Has for You, This Is a Good Sign He’s Preparing You for Marriage

If you are petrified of the opposite sex or have unrealistic expectations about relationships because you lack experience, God will often put you through relationships meant to develop you before giving you a relationship with the person you will marry one day.

3. If God Is Maturing You So You Can Fulfill the Biblical Role of a Husband or Wife

If God calls you to do something he will equip you to accomplish that call.
