UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has insisted the UK will not join offensive action in Iran.
But - he has agreed to a US request to use British military bases for "defensive" strikes on Iranian missile sites.
It comes after a weekend of conflict, with the US and Israel launching widespread strikes on Saturday targeting Iran's missile infrastructure, military sites and senior leaders. Iran has responded by launching missiles and drones across the Middle East.
The UK prime minister said Britain had learned lessons from the "mistakes of Iraq", and was not involved in the initial strikes on Iran and "will not join offensive action now".

The US has seized a Russian-flagged vessel in the North Atlantic linked to Venezuelan oil.
It also said it had apprehended a second tanker in the Caribbean in the “back-to-back” boarding of two “ghost fleet” ships.
The UK military supported the US operation to seize the tanker in the Atlantic, the Marinera, with air surveillance and a navy ship, the Ministry of Defence has said.
Moscow has said the tanker was only temporarily flagged to Russia, and that "no state has the right to use force against vessels properly registered in other countries' jurisdictions”.

US President Donald Trump has said there have been "productive conversations" about a "complete and total resolution" to the conflict in the Middle East.
He said he will "postpone any and all strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure" for a five day period.
On Saturday night, Trump gave Iran a 48-hour deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz - or, he said, the US would "obliterate" Iranian power plants, "starting with the biggest one first".

US President Donald Trump and his defence secretary have both heaped criticism on the UK and other allied countries for not being more involved in the war in Iran.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump called on the UK to "build up some delayed courage" and "take" the Strait of Hormuz, which has been mostly closed since the conflict began.
"You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us," Trump said.
"Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!"
Trump's sentiment was later echoed by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who urged other countries around the world to prepare "to step up" during a press conference at the Pentagon.
Hours later UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced more British troops are being sent to the Middle East to help allied countries defend themselves from Iranian attacks.

US President Donald Trump has said he is considering a limited military strike on Iran in order to pressure its leaders to agree a deal to curb the nuclear programme.
On Thursday, Trump said the world would find out "over the next, probably, 10 days" whether a deal would be reached or the US would take military action. The US has been increasing its military presence in the region in recent weeks.
The deployment includes the world's largest warship, USS Gerald R Ford, appearing to be heading towards the region.

The United States President Donald Trump has rejected the United Kingdom's offer of military support in West Asia, despite the UK's decision to send two aircraft carriers to the region. Trump told UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer that the US does not need UK support anymore, stating they don't need people involved when they've already won. The UK has deployed HMS Dragon and Wildcat helicopters to the region and sent F-35s to the Cyprus base for defensive purposes. Earlier, the UK had stated it would not get directly involved in the war or launch offensive strikes, and that its bases could only be used for defence. This hesitation reportedly upset Trump. The US president claims his country is already winning and has received strong support from Israel. The tensions follow ongoing discussions about Diego Garcia bases and the use of UK facilities by US forces.

The UK-US special relationship appears to be under strain after US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth slammed "traditional allies" for not supporting Donald Trump.
Sky's Mark Stone says the United States is "very angry" with the UK over its refusal to allow the US to use its air bases to attack Iran.
Sir Keir Starmer initially turned down a US request to use British bases for its campaign against Iran as it determined what Trump was planning was not legal under international law. But on Sunday, the PM said the nature of the request, and therefore the answer, had changed.

The UK has agreed to allow the US to use British bases to launch strikes on Iranian sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump said the UK "should have acted a lot faster", while Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed Sir Keir was "putting British lives in danger”.
Trump also said the US is considering “winding down” operations against Iran, but that other nations must guard the Strait of Hormuz - a vital shipping lane for oil.
But Iran’s foreign minister has said "it does not appear that the United States is prepared to halt its aggression".

The King and Queen will carry out a state visit to the US next month, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The visit will mark the 250th anniversary of America's independence from British rule.
But it comes amid heightened tension between the two allies, with Donald Trump once again criticising the UK on Truth Social on Tuesday, telling Britain to "go get your own oil".
It follows the UK's initial refusal to allow UK airbases to be used in the US-Israel war on Iran.

US President Donald Trump says an agreement with Iran has been "largely negotiated" and details will be announced soon.
The deal would include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, he said on Saturday, without giving further details.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei earlier told state television that US and Iranian positions had been converging in the last week, but warned that did not mean agreements would be reached on key issues and accused the Americans of "contradictory statements".
