The head of the British Armed Forces has admitted the UK is not currently ready for “full-scale” war because of defence budgets and our enjoyment of the Cold War “peace dividend.” Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton admitted the UK defence budget is limited by the UK military’s instruction to respond to changes such as preparing to send troops to Ukraine.

But he suggested Russia ’s being currently tied down in Ukraine, suffering enormous casualties, means Britain may have time to make ready for the threat of war. The Chief of the Defence Staff admitted to the all-party Defence Committee: "Over the last 30 years since the end of the Cold War we haven't been ready.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan, have condemned Iran's attacks on civilian infrastructure, and have called on it to stop its threats to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

“Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law," the statement from the leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan said.

"The effects of Iran’s actions will be felt by people in all parts of the world, especially the most vulnerable."

The group also expressed its "readiness" to contribute to "appropriate efforts" to ensure safe passage through the vital shipping channel, which around 20% of global energy supplies pass through.

The price of gas has risen sharply in the UK and Europe following Iran's attack on Qatar's Ras Laffan energy complex.

Iran's strike was in response to Israel hitting its South Pars gas field, located offshore in the Gulf, between Iran and Qatar.

Today, Laura, Paddy and Henry discuss whether Iranian missiles could feasibly strike the UK, as Israel has claimed.

The Israeli Defence Force said Iranian missiles "can reach London, Paris or Berlin."

The number of 16 to 24-year-olds in the UK not in employment, education or training - known as Neets - has risen above one million.

The number stands at its highest level in 12 years and is driven by more young people no longer looking for work, the Office for National Statistics said.

It's an increase from the 957,000 figure that was recorded in the period from October to December 2025.

Today, the Prime minister says he “felt sick” as he watched the body cam footage of a student who was handcuffed as he lay dying.

The 18-year-old Southampton student Henry Nowak was handcuffed after Vickrum Digwa, 23, lied to police at the scene of the 2025 stabbing, claiming he had been the victim of a racist attack. Shabana Mahmood described the murder as an "an act of pure evil” and described bodycam footage of officers handcuffing Nowak as "disturbing and tragic".

THIS is the moment an alleged Brit drug mule couple were arrested carrying £280,000 worth of cannabis back to the UK.

Video footage taken by Turkish customs officers shows Holly Cooper and Taylor Johnson being ordered to remove their bags from a luggage carousel.

The 20-year-olds were then taken to a custody suite in the international arrivals area of Istanbul airport where investigators checked their luggage.

As the glum-faced pair looked on – with Holly holding a pink neck pillow –officers found 17 black, vacuum-packed bags containing 19.2kg of cannabis.
