Donald Trump has said next week's state visit from King Charles and Queen Camilla could help repair relations with the UK.
When asked in a phone interview with the BBC whether the visit could help, Trump said: "Absolutely. He's fantastic. He's a fantastic man. Absolutely the answer is yes... I know him well, I've known him for years… He's a brave man, and he's a great man. They would absolutely be a positive."
The president also spoke about his relationship with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who he said could only "recover" if he changed course on immigration.
The King and Queen are travelling to the US for a four-day visit and will meet with Trump at the White House. The King will have a private meeting with the president and also deliver an address to Congress.
Trump was also asked about his relationship with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The two leaders have appeared at odds over the war in Iran. Trump has said he is "not happy" with the level of support offered by the UK, while Sir Keir has repeatedly said the country will not be drawn into a wider conflict.
When the president was asked why he needed allies such as the UK to get involved, he told the BBC: "I didn't need them at all but they should've been there. I didn't need them, obviously.”
"I wanted to see whether or not they would be involved," Trump said, describing his calls for support from allies as "more of a test".

Today, Laura and Paddy discuss Iranian missiles fired at Diego Garcia, the joint UK-US base in the Indian Ocean.
Two ballisitic missiles were fired at the island of Diego Garcia, the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported overnight, citing unnamed US officials, but neither weapon reached its target.
One missile reportedly failed in flight, while the other was intercepted by a US warship. It is unclear when the missiles were supposedly fired.
The BBC understands the reports are accurate.
They unpack the significance of the launches, and what it means for the UK’s involvement in the war in Iran.
And, Laura and Paddy speak to David Miliband, former foreign secretary and current president of humanitarian aid organisation, the International Rescue Committee. He discusses the humanitarian cost of the war at a time when this government is cutting £6 billion from the overseas budget by 2027.

It comes as Iranian media says the US has failed to make concrete concessions in its response to Tehran's latest proposal to end the conflict.
Meanwhile, oil prices have jumped again as the certainty of a proposed peace deal stalls.

Three B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers from the United States Air Force have landed at RAF Fairford, significantly boosting America’s long-range strike capability amid rising tensions with Iran.
The bombers join other U.S. aircraft already deployed in the United Kingdom, including B-1 bombers, after London allowed U.S. forces to use British bases for “defensive operations” linked to the ongoing regional conflict.
Each B-52 can carry heavy conventional weapons and long-range missiles, giving the U.S. the ability to launch powerful strikes if the situation escalates further. Analysts say the deployment signals a major buildup of airpower as Washington prepares for potential operations targeting Iranian missile infrastructure.

An American crew member rescued after a fighter jet was shot down over Iran is “safe and sound”, US President Donald Trump said.
The operation to rescue the airman led to an engagement between US and Iranian forces, after a race to locate them, with Iranian officials offering cash rewards to citizens to find them "alive”.
It is understood the rescue was a hugely complex operation involving significant US military resources, with hundreds of special forces personnel, several dozen warplanes and helicopters tasked with the search.

The prime minister has given America access to the Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford military bases, Sky News understands.
The prime minister said he believes that "the only way to stop the threat is to destroy the missiles at source" and the U.S. will be allowed to use the bases for this specific purpose.

President Trump has said he is considering withdrawing the US from Nato, after the refusal of US allies to join the US-Israeli war against Iran.
In a Truth Social post, the US president also said Iran had requested a ceasefire, claiming the country’s “new regime president” had made the request, although he didn’t make clear who he was referring to. Iran’s foreign ministry denied the claim, calling it “false and baseless”.
Israel continued its waves of attacks on Iran, which has also launched missiles at Iraq and Israel.
