SpaceX has pulled off a successful test flight of its newest generation rocket Starship, reversing a trend of disappointing failures.

The world's largest and most powerful rocket blasted off from Texas just after 18:30 local time (23:30 BST) for a nail-biting 60-minute flight.

Parts of the engine appeared to explode at one stage, and flaps on the side of the rocket caught fire and swung from side-to-side.

US space agency Nasa plans to use Starship to send humans to the Moon for its Artemis programme in 2027.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk will be welcoming the success after three Starship launches ended in failure this year, and one rocket exploded on the launch pad in June.

The US and the UK is set to announce a deal to reduce tariffs.

On Wednesday night, US President Donald Trump said there would be a "big" news conference at 10:00 (15:00 BST) to announce a "major trade deal" with a "highly respected country".

Downing Street said UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will provide an update shortly.

Currently, most goods imported to the US from the UK face 10% tariffs, with higher rates on steel, aluminium, and cars - the UK also charges tariffs on some US goods.

The deal could see reduced tariffs for cars entering the US and UK, and a cut in the digital sales tax on US firms.

Public postal operators say they lack clarity on how duties will be collected, forcing them to suspend shipments. While letters, books, documents, and gifts under $100 remain exempt, all other packages face delays, high tariffs, or suspension.
Private couriers like DHL and FedEx continue deliveries, but at higher costs. The change threatens to disrupt e-commerce, gift-giving, and small exporters worldwide.
