Cocaine, cannabis, laughing gas and prescription pills are being offered for sale in mini-marts on UK High Streets, a BBC investigation has revealed.
They were readily offered to our undercover researchers who secretly filmed in shops across four neighbouring West Midlands towns.
Across the country, shopfronts are being exploited by organised criminal gangs that have gained a foothold pushing illegal drugs, say both the National Crime Agency and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute.
Responding to the BBC’s findings in the West Midlands and more widely, a senior Labour MP is now calling on the government to act urgently.

A water cannon has been deployed to disperse a large crowd after a second night of disorder in Northern Ireland following the Belfast knife attack.
Riot police came under sustained attack from a group throwing bricks, bottles and pieces of wood at a major roundabout to the north-west of Belfast.
Additional officers were drafted in but Wednesday's disorder was not on the same scale as Tuesday's violence.
Public transport shut down across Northern Ireland and some schools closed early on Wednesday ahead of any disruption. Belfast city centre was deserted after many businesses shut up shop by lunchtime.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is fighting to stay on in his role, despite calls from Labour critics for him to step down.

Prince Harry has been denied royal security protection for an upcoming family visit to the UK, potentially jeopardising plans for the Sussexes and their children to travel together. The visit was intended to include taking the children to Princess Diana's final resting place, but Harry has consistently stated he will not bring Meghan and the children to the UK without full royal security. Reports suggest Harry may be hoping King Charles will intervene to overturn the security decision, though he declined an offer to stay at a royal residence where security would be provided.

Andy Burnham has reacted to Keir Starmer's resignation, and confirmed that he will try to replace him as Labour leader and prime minister.
"His decision marks the beginning of a transition and it is important that this process is conducted in an orderly and responsible way. I will put myself forward as part of this process”, Burnham said on social media.
While Starmer had been vowing to fight any leadership challenge, the tone shifted after Andy Burnham beat Reform UK in the Makerfield by-election on Thursday, and he announced his resignation on Monday morning.
Former Health Secretary Wes Streeting has said he will back Burnham’s bid.
