President Donald Trump has said Washington could reconsider its neutral stance on the Falkland Islands' sovereignty.

Argentine President Javier Milei escalated his country's dispute with Britain over the Falkland Islands on Thursday, vowing new measures to halt an oil project near the British-controlled archipelago, saying his country needs to “recover these islands”.

He also cast Trump's comments as proof that his close relationship with the US president — criticised by political opponents as overly deferential — was paying dividends.

In response, Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has said Britain’s commitment to the Falkland Islands is “absolute and unshakeable”.

David Walliams' publisher has confirmed it is dropping the author's back catalogue.

HarperCollins had already said it wouldn't release any new titles because of allegations of inappropriate behaviour, which Walliams denies.

But now the publisher has confirmed the children's author's existing books will also slowly disappear from bookshops.

Former Met Police Detective Peter Bleksley and former police officer Paul Birch respond to the Government telling police to use their 'full powers' to deal with protesters at small boats protests.

Protesters wearing face coverings at protests planned in Portsmouth this weekend could be arrested under new policing powers, Hampshire Police has said.

Hampshire Police said it will use the new tactic under the Crime and Policing Act to "allow peaceful protest and prevent violence".

Groups from South Coast Patriots have called for a peaceful march in Portsmouth city centre on Saturday afternoon, while Stand up to Racism will host a counter-protest march.

Anyone in the designated area wearing a face covering will be committing an offence and could be arrested for concealing their identity, the force said.

Two men have been found guilty of conspiring to carry out arson attacks on property and a car connected to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Ukrainian national Roman Lavrynovych, 22, and Ukrainian-born Romanian national Stanislav Carpiuc, 27, were convicted by an Old Bailey jury.

In May 2025, a Toyota once owned by Sir Keir was set alight in a street in Kentish Town, north London. Days later two homes were set ablaze, including one rented out to the prime minister's sister-in-law, which he still owned.

The prosecution told the court Lavrynovych carried out the arson attacks after being recruited online by Russian-speaking Telegram user "El Money" who promised him payment.

I met Esme just 10 days after she had been sexually assaulted while travelling home on a train.

She had recently shared a video on TikTok describing what had happened. Thousands of people watched it and hundreds contacted her to share their own experiences.

As we spoke about the impact the assault had had on her, she told me it was the second time she had reported a sexual offence to British Transport Police using its 61016 text service.

The first happened in March 2024 on a Jubilee line train near Canning Town.

"It was standing room only," she told me. "I looked down and there was a man masturbating on me."

Despite CCTV appeals, nobody has ever been identified.

British Transport Police told ITV News that while its investigation into the June 2026 assault remains ongoing, the 2024 investigation was closed after "all lines of enquiry were exhausted", pending any new information.

Esme admits that has shaken her confidence.

“They just have to wait and hope that maybe these people might assault you again. Or they might offend again, and they'll catch them someplace else,” she said.

To understand what happens after someone sends that first text message, ITV News was given exclusive access to the force's new Violence Against Women and Girls Taskforce.

Recorded offences have risen by almost 18% over the past year. British Transport Police believes that rise is being driven by more victims feeling able to report what has happened to them.

Flights across the UK have been disrupted by a "technical issue" with air traffic control.

Nats, which runs air traffic control, said it had "nothing to do" with a software defect that led to the cancellation of 2,000 flights earlier this month.

The issue at Nats' Prestwick centre in Ayrshire is "now fixed", with the system running "at full capacity".

Around 200 flights were cancelled or did not fly today, analytics firm Cirium said.

The UK's position on the Falkland Islands is "unwavering", Downing Street has said after Argentina's president said the islands were "historically and legally" Argentinian.

Javier Milei said the "winds of change" favoured his country's claim to the islands and pledged sanctions on firms planning to exploit oil close to the islands.

More than 40 years after the war over the territory, sovereignty of the archipelago in the south-west Atlantic Ocean remains hotly disputed between Britain and Argentina.

President Trump hinted the US would not help the UK in any future Falklands conflict because Britain "had not been there to help me" during his war with Iran.

The First Ministers of the UK’s devolved nations will sign a landmark agreement on Monday aimed at putting pressure on Downing Street to hold referendums on independence.

SNP leader John Swinney, Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth and Sinn Féin vice president Michelle O’Neill will meet in Cardiff on Monday, where they are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding pushing for referendums in their respective countries.

The trio will meet in their capacity as party leaders, rather than as officials in their respective governments.

Successive UK governments have been consistently against the holding of referendums on separation since the 2014 vote in Scotland and hopes earlier this week of a softening position were dashed by Downing Street.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the Commons another vote in Scotland could be held if there was a “clear consensus” north of the border for it, but a letter sent to Swinney later clarified a referendum remained “off limits”.

A Sinn Féin source told the Press Association the Cardiff summit will be about “where the parties can work together to make a difference to people’s lives; and how each of our nations has the right to shape its own future through democratic means, guided by the will of its people”.

The source added: “In Ireland, the constitutional future belongs to the people of this island.

“The Good Friday Agreement gives us the democratic means to decide it, and now is the time to prepare seriously for that choice.

“Irish unity is not a distant aspiration.

“The work of building the new Ireland must begin now.”

The meeting is due to take place in Cardiff on Monday.

Speaking on the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, Welsh First Minister ap Iorweth said: “We’re talking about how we can work together, let’s talk about what we have in common and what we don’t.”

Reform UK has been reported to the police over allegations it breached political donation rules by having polling paid for by an overseas company.

Nigel Farage’s party took funding from a US firm for three polls it commissioned earlier this year costing £32,500, Channel 4 News reported.

The purported donors were in fact undercover reporters from investigative group Verbatim posing as an American financier and his UK-based son.

The Liberal Democrats have written to the Metropolitan Police and Electoral Commission.

Labour also intends to report the matter to the police, it is understood, and the Greens have called for a probe. The Met said it is assessing the reports.

Reform, which is holding its party conference in Birmingham, denies any wrongdoing.
