Dramatic footage shows the RNLI shepherding a packed vessel into Portsmouth on Britain’s south coast, where hundreds of demonstrators massed and later clashed with police well into the night. Crowds faced down officers in a tense overnight standoff, vowing to stop the migrants leaving the city after arriving by small boat.

They blocked key roads for hours and pledged to stay through the night in the second major anti‑migrant protest of the weekend.

The dinghy, reportedly carrying around 140 migrants, is believed to have completed one of the longest small‑boat crossings, with landings as far west as Hampshire a rarity.

Protesters said they were determined to prevent officials from transferring the group to the Manston processing centre in Kent.

Police have warned of a crackdown ahead of another planned protest in Portsmouth today.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has announced it will employ new powers under the Crime and Policing Act to prevent people involved in protest activity from concealing their identity by wearing face coverings. The move comes after a man was arrested on Friday as part of an investigation into the violent disorder at an anti-migrant protest in the city last Sunday, the first of several people expected to face justice in the aftermath of the clashes.

Hundreds of protesters have descended on Portsmouth as a small boat containing asylum seekers docks on the south coast of England.

The boat launched earlier today, where occupants have been brought to shore to be processed, with videos on social media showing groups being taken on lifeboats to land where several coaches are parked.

Around 500 demonstrators are believed to have joined a protest in the area, with some dressed in all black - similar those who joined an anti-illegal migrant protest which blocked the Port of Dover yesterday.

UK towns have sounded the alarm that they are ill-equipped to handle the arrival of several migrants following mass anti-immigration protests.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight police and crime commissioner Donna Jones said places such as Dover and Portsmouth are “not set up” for migrant arrivals.

“We have hundreds of miles of coastline across southern England, and if Dover is no longer the destination of choice, and instead there is going to be a spread across southern England, this is a significant issue for the Government,” Jones said.

Jones’ remarks follow huge protests in Portsmouth following the arrival of roughly 140 migrants.

The protest eventually turned ugly as police in riot shields clashed with demonstrators attempting to stop the transportation of migrants.

Demonstrators carried the Union flag of Britain and the red and white St. George's Cross of England, while others brought American and Israeli flags and wore MAGA hats of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Anti-immigration "Unite the Kingdom" protesters also faced off against police in one of the biggest right-wing demonstrations of modern times in the U.K.
