"Only You (And You Alone)" (often shortened to "Only You") is a pop song composed by Buck Ram.[1] It was recorded most successfully by The Platters, with lead vocals by Tony Williams, in 1955.
The first recording of the song on Federal Records, also by Williams and The Platters, turned out poorly in 1954, but after a re-recording, the song scored a major hit when it was released on July 3, 1955. Platters bass singer Herb Reed later recalled how the group hit upon its successful version: "We tried it so many times, and it was terrible. One time we were rehearsing in the car... and the car jerked. Tony went 'O-oHHHH-nly you.' We laughed at first, but when he sang that song — that was the sign we had hit on something."[2]
The song held strong in the number-one position on the U.S. R & B charts for seven weeks, and hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[3] It remained there for 30 weeks, beating out a rival cover version by a white band called The Hilltoppers. When the Platters track, "The Great Pretender" (which eventually surpassed the success of "Only You"), was released in the UK as Europe's first introduction to The Platters, "Only You" was included on the flipside. In the 1956 film Rock Around the Clock, The Platters participated with both songs "Only You" and "The Great Pretender".

What are the Bible secret texts? What texts were cut out of the Bible? For one, the Gnostic Gospels tells of two gods: the vengeful and scornful one of the Old Testament, and the benevolent father of Jesus Christ of the New Testament. Several traditional Bible stories are contradicted by the Gnostic Gospels: the serpent in the story of Adam and Eve is the hero in the Gnostic Bible; the Holy Spirit was a flesh and blood woman who lived and breathed on Earth; a baby Jesus struck people blind and killed them in wrathful vengeance.

In 1945, a farmer named Muhammad ‘Ali Al-Sammán made the archeological discovery of a lifetime. While digging in Nag Hammadi, Egypt he hit a red clay jar that was nearly a meter tall. Muhammad ‘Ali was initially hesitant to open it, thinking it might contain a genie.

What it held was equally as rare as it was powerful: thirteen leather-bound papyrus books comprised of the fifty to sixty ancient texts now referred to as the Gnostic Gospels.

Muhammad ‘Ali had no idea the value of what he found. His mother had even less of an understanding, or she never would’ve used what many say are the lost pages of “The Bible” for kindling.

The books contained works that were originally written around the same time as the passages that did make their way into the finished version of “The Bible,” with a few notable additions.

So, the real question is: why didn’t the gospels of Thomas, Judas, or Mary Magdalene make the cut?

Introduction to New Testament (RLST 152)

We have known of the existence of the Gospel of Thomas from ancient writers, but it was only after the discovery of the Nag Hammadi Codices that the actual text became available. The Gospel of Thomas is basically a collection of sayings, or logia, that sometimes seem similar, perhaps more primitive than sayings found in the canonical Gospels. Sometimes, however, the sayings seem better explained as reflecting a "Gnostic" understanding of the world. This involves a rejection of the material world and a desire for gnosis, a secret knowledge, in order to escape the world and return to the divine being.
