Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected the idea of a "reassurance force" in Ukraine after any ceasefire comes into place.

At a Paris summit aimed at finalising plans for security guarantees, French President Emmanuel Macron said 26 of Ukraine's allies had formally committed to deploying troops "by land, sea or air" after a ceasefire.

President Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the BBC’s Russia editor Steve Rosenberg that the pledge “…will not help us get closer to the solution of the Ukrainian conflict."

US President Donald Trump has condemned Russia’s actions in Ukraine, saying “I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing”. Trump confirmed that he plans to impose economic sanctions on Moscow within days if no ceasefire agreement is reached.

It follows some of the deadliest Russian attacks on Ukraine’s capital since Russia’s full scale invasion. Officials in Kyiv say at least 16 people were killed and more than 150 injured, many of them children, when missiles rained down on residential areas of the city.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump said he was not sure whether sanctions would deter Russia. He has given Russian President Vladimir Putin until August 8 to agree a deal or face tariffs and economic sanctions.

In a social media post Tuesday, President Donald Trump accused China's President Xi Jinping, North Korea's Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin of conspiring against the United States. It comes as Xi hosted the leaders for a military parade in Beijing that celebrated the 80th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II.

On Truth Social, Trump said:

At least 13 people have been killed and dozens injured in Nepal after demonstrations against a government social media ban led to clashes between protesters and security forces.

Thousands heeded a call by demonstrators describing themselves as Generation Z to gather near the parliament building in Kathmandu over the decision to ban platforms including Facebook, X and YouTube.

Nepal's Minister for Communication Prithvi Subba said police had had to use force - which included water cannons, batons and firing rubber bullets.

The government has said social media platforms need to be regulated to tackle fake news, hate speech and online fraud.

But popular platforms such as Instagram have millions of users in Nepal, who rely on them for entertainment, news and business.
