Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor appears to have knowingly shared confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein when, as Prince Andrew, he was a UK trade envoy.
Emails seen by the BBC from the recently released Epstein files show Mr Mountbatten-Windsor apparently passing on details of investment and trade opportunities to the convicted sex offender.
The emails were sent in 2010, at a time when Andrew later claimed he had cut off contact with Epstein. Official guidance says trade envoys have a duty of confidentiality, with sensitive commercial or political information.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been contacted for comment by the BBC but has not responded.
Jane Hill presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Andy Verity.

Burnham said his win could mark a "turning point" for the country, and Starmer has confirmed he would run in any possible leadership election.
But what actually happens now? BBC Journalist Jo Crawford and BBC Politics Editor Chris Mason are in Makerfield to explain.

It is a "personal decision" for Sir Keir Starmer whether he chooses to fight any potential leadership contest, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has said.
She told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that Sir Keir had "shown before that he's up for a fight" and "I wouldn't write off the prime minister".
The PM has defied calls to step down in recent days, after nearly 90 of his own MPs urged him to go and five ministers resigned.

Scrolling through a check-list on his mobile phone, the latest asylum seeker to set foot in Britain asked me where he could exchange his foreign currency. The 25-year-old man from the Middle East had just arrived by bus at Belfast Grand Central Station through a backdoor route from the Republic of Ireland to the United Kingdom.
He had flown from Germany to Dublin Airport, before boarding the Translink X1 bus service to Northern Ireland. I was on the bus, retracing the two-hour journey believed to have been used by Hadi Alodid, the Sudanese man charged with the attempted murder of Stephen Ogilvie, 44, who lost an eye and suffered life-changing injuries in a knife attack in Belfast.

The prime minister has confirmed a full social media ban will be introduced in the UK for under-16s.

Keir Starmer said the government had listened carefully to campaigners and that social media was creating an unhappy environment for children. He acknowledged that teenagers would try to circumvent the ban, but said people get around other laws and that does not make them pointless.
Starmer said the government would 'move at speed' to pass the necessary legislation before Christmas and bring the ban into force early 2027.

The UK’s hottest June day on record has been broken again during this week's heatwave, with a provisional temperature of 36.4C recorded in Yeovilton, Somerset.
This surpasses the high of 36.1C set on Wednesday in Gosport, Hampshire, the Met Office said.
It comes after the Met Office extended its red warning for extreme heat into Friday as the peak of a heatwave affecting most of England and Wales are set to shift eastwards.
From midnight tonight until 9pm on Friday, the red warning will be in place across large parts of the South East and the East of England, the forecaster said.
In the East of England, the warning applies to Central Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Luton and Thurrock.
Meanwhile in the capital and the South East, Bracknell Forest, Brighton and Hove, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Greater London, Hampshire, Kent, Medway, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, Reading, Slough, Surrey, West Berkshire, West Sussex, Windsor and Maidenhead, and Wokingham are affected.
But how long will this heat continue for - and when will the thunderstorms arrive?

BBC News goes undercover to expose legal advisers charging migrants thousands of pounds to fabricate immigration claims, giving them fake cover stories.
Some migrants are being encouraged to pretend to be gay to claim asylum. They are advised to gather untrue evidence including supporting letters and photos at LGBT events, for their applications.
Others are encouraged to make false allegations of domestic abuse.
The investigation finds advisers exploiting migrants and abusing safeguards designed to protect those truly at risk.
