Jesus teaches a woman of Samaria.

John 4:5–29

5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

Darla felt like she was normal on the outside but broken on the inside. Early traumatic experiences left her feeling battered, ashamed, and abused. In an attempt to find herself, Darla ran away and joined a generational Mexican circus. This changed her life for the better. She gained discipline, trust, confidence, and greater mental strength.

But a few years later, the holes Darla felt inside became more apparent. Past traumas began to surface. She temporarily numbed the emotional pain with alcohol and substance abuse. After a few years, Darla began to break down physically and mentally. If she didn’t change, she was going to die.

One day, while driving on the freeway, Darla prayed, “God, if you’re there—if you even care—do you still want me? Is there still hope for me?” Instantly Darla felt prompted to look out the window to the right and saw a prison. Then she looked to her left and saw the Draper Utah Temple. Darla felt the impression “You’re free to choose liberty or death.”

Darla felt a peace and calm she hadn’t felt in years. She could choose! She had power! She had worth! The moment Darla cried out for help, she was found. God left the ninety and nine and came after Darla, the one lost sheep.

Darla believes our differences don’t make us broken—they make us powerful. Our power can be used for good to seek out the lost sheep, the misfits, and the broken and show them the power that’s inside them.

Recipes:

Homemade oat milk recipe
1 cup organic rolled oats
4 cups ice cold water
optional: salt to taste
sweetener to taste

Directions:
1. Rinse organic rolled oats (Do not use Instant or quick cooking oats)
2. Add oats to a blender with 4 cups of ice cold water.
3. Let soak for 10 minutes.
4. Blend for 30-60 seconds on high. Add any optional flavourings you want and then strain oat milk through a nut milk bag (be gentle!) and put in a container. Keep in the fridge for 3-5 days.

Homemade almond milk recipe
1 cup organic raw almonds (do not use salted/roasted!) soaked overnight
4 cups water
optional: salt to taste
sweetener to taste

Directions:
1. Soak almonds overnight in a large bowl with more than enough water to cover them.
2. Rinse and drain almonds and add to a blender with 4 cups of water.
3. Blend for 60 seconds on high. Add any optional flavourings you want and then strain almond milk through a nut milk bag and put in a container. Keep in the fridge for 3-5 days.

Homemade soy milk recipe
1/2 cup organic dried yellow soybeans, soaked overnight
4 cups water
salt to taste (a pinch or two - i highly recommend adding this)
2 tsp maple syrup (or to taste)

Directions:
1. Soak soybeans overnight in boiling water. After a 12 hour soak, try your best to remove the skins from the beans. Drain and rinse the beans.
2. Add beans to a blender with 4 cups of water.
3. Blend for 30-60 seconds on high. Then add to a large pot.
4. Bring to a low boil and reduce to a simmer for approx. 20 minutes. Stir often to prevent burning.
5. Remove from heat and let cool. Once cool, strain through a nut milk bag and put in a container. Add salt and sweetener and shake well. Place milk in the fridge for 3-5 days.

*Homemade milks will only last approx 3-5 days in the fridge. For this reason I suggest making small batches.

After suffering four brain injuries in one year and enduring excruciating pain and memory loss, Emily Farmer felt God’s grace as she shared her talents. “We are never abandoned,” she exclaimed. “God is there for us.”

“Every day was so hard,” she said, describing the brain fog and agony after the fourth brain injury, caused by a car accident. She questioned, If God loved her, why would He let these injuries happen? “I felt like my life was done.”

One day while jogging, she heard a distinct voice tell her to stop and play the piano in a care center. A gifted musician, Emily thought she’d return another day when she wasn’t so sweaty. The voice was more demanding the second time, so she entered.

In the course of performing a makeshift concert, she met a man “with a little pep to his step” who would turn 100 years old in six months. She promised to return every week until his birthday.

“It was so hard every day just to get out of bed, but I … had made a promise to this man,” she said. “I have to keep him alive until he is 100 years old.” Her weekly visits soon turned into daily shows.

This new friend taught her to move forward in life despite challenges. “If you have a pulse, you have a purpose,” he said.

Gradually, Emily said, through interactions with others, she began to feel God’s grace. Hope grew. “God puts people in our path … at the most random times,” she continued. “If there’s anything I’ve learned in my life, it’s that we are never abandoned. … God is there for us.”
