Hinter den Kulissen der Welt agiert angeblich eine geheime Macht. Sie will eine neue Weltordnung, will uns versklaven. Doch wer steckt dahinter? Illuminaten? Rothschilds? Die Bilderberger?

Verschwörungserzählungen erfahren starken Zulauf. Die Menschen sehnen sich nach Ordnung, Sicherheit und vor allem nach Erklärungen für die vorherrschenden Missstände. Das überwältigende Gefühl der Ohnmacht lässt manche für Verschwörungserzählungen anfällig werden, da diese auf den ersten Blick eine simple Antwort auf die komplexen gesellschaftlichen und politischen Probleme bieten.

Dazu gesellt sich immer ein eindeutiges Feindbild. Oft ist die Rede von der Machtelite, "denen da oben", oder Geheimbünden. Einige wenige lenken im Verborgenen die Geschicke der ganzen Welt. Natürlich ausnahmslos zu ihrer eigenen Bereicherung, ohne Rücksicht auf die Konsequenzen oder die Wünsche der restlichen Bevölkerung. Das Märchen von der versteckten Elite, welche die Fäden zieht, ist uralt und hat viele Versionen. Die unsichtbaren Mächtigen können viele Formen annehmen.
