Ukraine’s 425th Assault Regiment is once again in the spotlight after drone footage revealed a lone soldier using disguise and quick thinking to survive behind enemy lines. Cut off from his unit near Boykovka, northeast of Pokrovsk, the soldier pretended to be Russian and walked side by side with two enemy troops before striking. Both Russians were killed instantly in what analysts describe as a textbook example of battlefield deception.

The Skala Regiment, formed in 2022, has been at the forefront of some of Ukraine’s hardest fighting. Recently outfitted with U.S.-made M1 Abrams tanks supplied via Australia, the unit continues to showcase adaptability in combat. Japan and the US have issued tsunami warnings after a powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck Russia on Wednesday.

Official evacuation orders have been issued to people on the Pacific coast of Japan and in Hawaii.

The first tsunami waves, at 30cm high, arrived at the northern coast of Japan's Hokkaido prefecture before 10.40 local time (02.40 BST), Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported. Waves at 40cm high have been observed in Tokachi, in Hokkaido.

US authorities have issued tsunami warnings for Hawaii and Alaska. Hawaii warns it could face "destructive" 3-meter high waves.

An estimated 218,000 people need evacuation from the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, including 16,500 children.

The area, which is crucial to the country's defence, is bearing the brunt of Russia's invasion, including daily attacks from drones and missiles.

Some are unable to leave, other unwilling.

And despite the growing threat from Russian drones there are those who would rather take their chances than leave their homes.

In a spectacular military and propganda coup, Ukraine has carried out an audacious attack on Russia’s airforce, using drones to destroy as many as 40 warplanes at military bases across the country.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said 117 drones were used in the so-called "Spider's Web" operation by the SBU security service. They were smuggled into Russia hidden in wooden mobile cabins, moved close to the airbases, then launched by remote control. Ukrainian sources told BBC News it had taken 18 months to plan and carry out the operation.

Russia confirmed the Ukrainian attacks, calling them a "terrorist act". Ukraine claims it caused $7bn in damage and destroyed many of Russia’s strategic bomber aircraft.
