Amid the Israel‑Iran war, explosions and missile activity were reported in and around Cyprus, where Britain’s strategic RAF bases are located, after the UK agreed to let the United States use some British bases for limited defensive action against Iranian missile threats. British Defence Secretary John Healey said two missiles were fired in the direction of Cyprus amid Iran’s retaliation for joint US‑Israeli strikes on Iran, though authorities believe they were not deliberately aimed at the island.

King Charles has delivered a direct message to President Trump and US lawmakers, in a speech to Congress in Washington.
He praised NATO, the military alliance which Trump has questioned in recent months. And the King urged the President not to abandon Ukraine, in its war with Russia.
The King also spoke of the “unbreakable” friendship between the US and UK, comments which led to one of many standing ovations.
The King reminded Congress that the only time Nato military alliance’s collective defence had been invoked was after the 911 attacks on the US
And he went on to say: “Today, Mr Speaker, that same, unyielding resolve is needed for the defence of Ukraine and her most courageous people. It is needed in order to secure a truly just and lasting peace”.
