This tutorial shows you how to use a solderless breadboard to build an electronic circuit, including the basics of how a breadboard works and some common mistakes that beginners make. You can find the written tutorial at Science Buddies: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/how-to-use-a-breadboard.shtml?ytid=6WReFkfrUIk&ytsrc=description

0:00 intro
0:35 why is it called a breadboard?
0:49 types of breadboards
1:14 how does a breadboard work?
1:57 what's inside a breadboard?
2:40 breadboard rows and columns
3:08 power buses (rails)
3:56 which holes are connected?
5:00 simple circuit with LED
6:32 common mistakes
6:50 wrong row
7:20 loose wires
8:03 polarity
8:43 jumper wires
10:17 solid vs stranded wire
11:00 integrated circuits (ICs) and dual in-line packages (DIPs)

If you liked this video, you may also find our multimeter tutorial useful: https://youtu.be/ts0EVc9vXcs

Are you wondering whether the resistor needs to be before the LED in the circuit? That's the most common question we get about this tutorial! Check out this video for an explanation of why it's OK to have the resistor after the LED: https://youtu.be/NUKD9qESO58

Do you want to build the example circuit shown in this video? All the circuit parts you need are available on Amazon.com:

- LEDs: https://amzn.to/2WdswiI
- 47 ohm resistor*: https://amzn.to/2WhfkcC
- Jumper wire kit: https://amzn.to/2MoV60P
- 2xAA battery holder: https://amzn.to/2EUnSAi

(Lyrics):
[Verse 1]
I just need someone in my life to give it structure
To handle all the selfish ways I'd spend my time without her
You're everything I want, but I can't deal with all your lovers
Saying I'm the one, but it's your actions that speak louder
Giving me love when you are down and need another
I've got to get away and let you go, I've got to get over

[Chorus]
But I love you so
I love you so
I love you so
I love you so

[Verse 2]
I'm gonna pack my things and leave you behind
This feeling's old and I know that I've made up my mind
I hope you feel what I felt when you shattered my soul
'Cause you were cruel and I'm a fool
So please let me go

[Chorus]
But I love you so (please let me go)
I love you so (please let me go)
I love you so (please let me go)
I love you so

Today, Laura and Paddy discuss Iranian missiles fired at Diego Garcia, the joint UK-US base in the Indian Ocean.

Two ballisitic missiles were fired at the island of Diego Garcia, the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported overnight, citing unnamed US officials, but neither weapon reached its target.

One missile reportedly failed in flight, while the other was intercepted by a US warship. It is unclear when the missiles were supposedly fired.

The BBC understands the reports are accurate.

They unpack the significance of the launches, and what it means for the UK’s involvement in the war in Iran.

And, Laura and Paddy speak to David Miliband, former foreign secretary and current president of humanitarian aid organisation, the International Rescue Committee. He discusses the humanitarian cost of the war at a time when this government is cutting £6 billion from the overseas budget by 2027.

The seizure of a Russian-flagged oil tanker by American special forces, with British help, is being called illegal by Moscow.

[Subscribe to our Substack newsletter: https://channel4news.substack.com/subscribe]

It’s one of two tankers seized by the US in one day, as America is putting the wide reach and full extent of its power on show.

The continued insistence that Washington will seize Greenland, by money if possible, by force if necessary. A move described by one Republican Senator as ‘weapons grade stupid’.

And all this a few days after the American capture of a sovereign head of state. Not a movie plot but the messy reality of geo politics in the first week of 2026. But at what risk, and in the case of Venezuela, to what effect?

Donald Trump has dismissed suggestions that his plan to take control of Greenland, in the face of opposition by his NATO allies, could lead to the break up of the alliance.

Asked about a possible threat to the future of NATO, President Trump said: “Something is going to happen which will be very good for everybody. Nato will be very happy and we will be very happy. But we need it [Greenland] for security purposes, we need it for national security and even world security.”

At a press conference at the White House, Donald Trump was also asked how far he was willing to go to acquire Greenland and replied: “You’ll find out”. He repeated his threat to impose new punitive tariffs on countries that opposed his plans.

Other leaders intensified their criticism of the US administration. The French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe had little regard for bullies and preferred the “rule of law to brutality.” Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney warned of a “rupture” in the world order.

Mr Carney was speaking at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Switzerland, where the US President is due to arrive on Wednesday to address world leaders and business elites.
